A, B teams get new season under way with victories at home against Baechtel Grove

MIDDLETOWN >> Middletown Middle School’s A and B volleyball teams opened a new season by beating Baechtel Grove of Willits during action Wednesday in Middletown.
Middletown won the A match 25-10, 25-21 and the B match 25-15, 25-12.
Dallas Totorica served up 10 points, four of them aces, and also had two kills in the A match. Lily Day added seven service points and two kills.
“Everyone got in to play today, and the girls did a great job working together,” Middletown head coach Niki Emberson said. “This group has awesome chemistry and I’m really excited for this season with them.”
The B team won without its starting setter, who missed the match because of illness. Nevertheless, the Broncos nailed down the victory behind 18 service points, 11 aces and a kill from Madison Lewis, and eight service points and four aces from Abby Tribby.
“The flu has hit our team, and we were down a starting setter today, and I’m so impressed with the girls stepped in to fill that role,” Emberson said. “All the girls got some playing time, and they looked good for their first game.”
Added Emberson, “We are a young and inexperienced team, but they’re scrappy and have the best attitude, so I’m excited to see how much they’ll grow this season.”
Middletown’s teams head to Ukiah on Monday to play Pomolita Middle School. The Broncos’ league opener is Wednesday against Obsidian Middle School in Clearlake.
