Varsity, junior varsity clubs both notch non-league road victories

LAYTONVILLE >> Upper Lake High School’s varsity volleyball team bounced back into the win column Wednesday with a 25-11, 25-19, 14-25, 25-14 non-league win at Laytonville, overcoming 21 serving errors in the process.
“For a team that has been pretty good from the service line, tonight was not so good,” Upper Lake head coach Fawn Rave said. “A majority of that (21 missed serves) came in the third set.”
Added Rave of her team’s overall play, “We had some pretty good rallies and overall, I’m really proud of them all.”
Alyssa John finished with a team-best 14 kills and four blocks to go along with two aces, two assists and two digs. Rilee Sperber recorded 14 assists while Jordyn Parker and Marina Quiett added nine and eight kills, respectively. Parker also had four blocks while Quiett had three aces. Rylee Jones served 11 points, including two aces.
Upper Lake hosts Maxwell on Tuesday in non-league action.
In junior varsity action Wednesday, Upper Lake beat Laytonville 25-8, 25-23 behind eight service points and two kills from Bristol Stiritz, and seven points from Kylie Solorio, who also played “great defense,” according to head coach Raelene Cromwell.
Jordin Hughes, Sabrina Wenning and Lizzy Fernandez had two kills apiece.
“I’m enjoying watching this group of girls playing together,” Cromwell said. “They are learning to adjust with all the different rotations to see what fits for us as a team.”
