Team captures tournament opener in Hayward

HAYWARD >> The Lake County Softball Club 18-under team beat the Pacific Sirens 16-under team 7-5 on Saturday during tournament action in Hayward.
Lake County used a three-run bottom of the third to erase a 5-4 Pacifica lead. Bella Stillman singled home a run during the game-winning rally.
Winning pitcher Madi Byrne allowed two earned runs.
Lake County collected nine hits in all, including two each by Byrne, Cali Albaum and Amelie Davis. Ashlynn Cruz had a run-scoring single.
Lake County’s defense turned a pair of double plays.
Lake County plays again later Saturday against the Santa Rosa Red Barons 16-under team.
