Team sweeps Napa Crushers in home doubleheader

LOWER LAKE >> The Lake County Fury scored a doubleheader sweep Saturday, beating the Napa Crushers twice at home, 9-3 in the first game and 7-5 in the second game at Lower Lake High School.
An under-16 traveling softball team with a roster of young teens and even some pre-teens, the Fury more than held their own again the under-14 Crushers, according to head coach Kris Bal.
“We win when we stay in our age group,” Bal said. “We fought hard. I’m proud of our players.”
Starting pitcher Araya Dotson earned the win in game one, working 2 2/3 innings before giving way to reliever Aubrey Sanchez. Dotson struck out three and walked two.
The Fury took control of the game with a six-run bottom of the second inning. Emilynn Sparks singled home two runs while Dotson and Kierstyn Lambert added RBI singles. Lillie Perez walked to force home another run, and the Fury also had a steal of home.
The Fury tacked on two more runs in the third, including a RBI triple by Eden Sparks and a RBI groundout by Lambert.
In all, the Fury finished with 10 hits and 12 stolen bases while also turning two double plays in the field.
In game two, the Lake County Fury scored three times in the first inning on RBI singles by Heidi Ortega and Eden Sparks and a RBI grounder by Lexi Mitchell. The Fury pushed ahead to stay in the second on the strength of a Chevelle Sprague RBI triple, a Zeanna Carver RBI double, an Emilynn Sparks RBI single and Sanchez’s bases-loaded walk.
Sanchez was the winning pitcher as she struck out four and walked one.
Sprague and Espistrug each had two hits for the Fury, who had eight hits in all.
“I’m so happy winning our first ever game at home,” Bal said. “We are definitely representing our county. We had a great crowd today. Thank you for all the support.”
The Fury are 3-7 on the season.
The Fury are trying to schedule another home game before traveling to Reno for a tournament on Sept. 20, according to Bal.
