Both losses come to same team at NorCal Championships in Tracy

TRACY >> The Lake County Diamonds 12-under club softball team placed fourth in their division over the weekend at the NorCal Championships in Tracy, finishing the tournament with a 3-2 record.

Both of the Diamonds’ losses came to the same team, the Millbrae Mischief. After falling 12-3 to the Mischief in their first game of the tournament and bouncing back with three straight wins, the Diamonds met the Mischief again in the third-place game, dropping a 4-3 decision.

Ava Cockrill went 3-for-3 for Lake County while Avery English, Araya Dotson and Emmie Hernandez all had hits. Dotson was the losing pitcher.

In their first meeting with the Mischief, the Diamonds received hits from Dotson, who tripled, Hernandez and Kaelani Becerril.

The Diamonds beat the San Carlos Force 10-2 for their first of three straight wins. Hernandez was the winning pitcher while both Hernandez and Estella Del Sarto had two hits apiece. Cockrill went 1-for-1 and Becerril went 1-for-2 with a double.

Lake County came right back with a 14-3 win over the Belmont Blast, riding the pitching of Dotson and a 4-for-4 day at the plate by Del Sarton. Hernandez went 2-for-2, Dotson went 2-for-4 and inside-the-park home run, and Madison Richter went 2-for-4 with a double. Becerril and Faith Myers added two hits apiece.

The Diamonds defeated another Benicia team, this time the Benicia Outlaws, in the second of their three games Sunday, Hernandez was the winning pitcher. At the plate, English went 2-for-3, Myers went 2-for-3 with a double, and Cockrill, Richter and Dotson had one hit each.

Lake County is coached by Jerry Valencia and Dustin Hernandez.
