MEDFORD, Ore. >> The Lake County Baseball 13-under club team won its bracket over the weekend at the second annual Southern Oregon Summer Slam, a three-day tournament that opened Friday and ran through Sunday.

After losing its only game Friday and going 1-1 on Saturday, Lake County swept its two opponents Sunday, beating Gladiators Baseball 13-under 14-6 in its final game Sunday to clinch its bracket. Virgil Perez went 4-for-5 with three RBIs to spark Lake County at the plate while Nathan Heath and Richie Occhino each had three hits and two RBIs. Dylan Bohan and Dillon Egan added two hits apiece.

Occhino was the winning pitcher, striking out seven.

Lake County advanced to the championship game earlier Sunday with a 9-1 win over the North Medford Tornados 13-under.

Heath went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, Perez went 1-for-3 with three RBIs while Egan and Isaac Ogo each had two hits. Both of Heath’s hits went for extra bases (double, triple). Ogo also tripled.

Heath earned the pitching win.

Lake County lost 10-6 to the North Medford Tornados, the same team it came back to beat on Sunday, in its tournament opener Friday. Heath went 2-for-3 with two RBIs while Perez went 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Ogo (1-for-3) also drove in a run.

During Saturday’s action, Lake County registered its first tournament win with a 10-6 win over UVB 13-under. Ogo (1-for-2) drove in four runs in the loss while Perez (1-for-2) had a pair of RBIs.

Later Saturday, Lake County lost to No. 1 seed Project Mill Pono from Alameda 10-3.

William Pisaro went 1-for-2 with two RBIs for Lake County.

“Second baseman Noah Warrn and Rhys Davis made multiple plays to help get the team to the championship game,” coach Kyle Heath said. “William Pisaro was outstanding at first base. Deegan Clark had great range in the outfield, catching multiple flyballs.”

Heath also praised the catching of Isaac Ogo, who caught all but one game.
