Junior high rodeo stars punch their tickets during state championships in Oakdale

MIDDLETOWN >> Middletown Middle School students Rylie Slaight and Kaliana Reymundo have qualified for the National Junior High Finals Rodeo on June 21-27 in Guthrie, Oklahoma.
Slaight, an eighth-grader, is the California High School Junior High Rodeo District 2 breakaway champion as well as Reserve All-Around Cowgirl in 2026. She qualified in three events at the recent California Junior High Rodeo Championships in Oakdale – breakaway, team roping and ribbon roping. She captured third place in breakaway at the state championships to earn a spot in the national finals in Oklahoma.
Reymundo, a sixth-grader, won the pole bending championship and was Junior Queen in District 2 this season. She placed fourth in pole bending at the state championships in Oakdale and will compete in that event during the national finals in Oklahoma.
