Boomers pound Giants 16-3 in first-round game at Yuba City

YUBA CITY >> Kelseyville Little League’s minors team, the Boomers, defeated the Giants 16-3 in in the opening round of the Tournament of Champions on Wednesday in Yuba City.

Next up for the Boomers is a Monday contest against Marysville at 8 p.m. in Yuba City.

The Boomers (11-1) scored seven runs on four hits in the top of the fifth to break open a close game. Josiah Wilson had a two-run single during the inning, Eagle Feather Pasalo and Waylon Minor walked to force home runs, Anthony Pasalo and Austin Aiken added RBI singles, and Owen Johnson had a RBI groundout.

Wilson, who bats ninth in the Boomers’ lineup, went 3-for-4. Aiken and Asher McNabb finished with two hits apiece. The Boomers also drew nine walks and stole 15 bases.

Aiken pitched 3 1/3 innings for the win, allowing one earned run, striking out eight and walking six.
