UPPER LAKE >> St. Helena High School’s softball team clinched a tie for the North Central League I title Monday with a 14-2 win in five innings against the Upper Lake Cougars in Upper Lake.

It’s the fourth straight league title of some sort for the Saints (13-0 league, 17-5 overall), who can secure the outright championship with a win Wednesday in Cloverdale.

Upper Lake dropped to 3-9 in league play and 5-10 overall. The Cougars are on the road Wednesday against Kelseyville before wrapping up their league schedule Thursday at home against Lower Lake.

“It’s a great learning experience for our young team to play such an accomplished team,” Upper Lake head coach Janice Klier said.

St. Helena had a 7-0 lead before Ada Blanton had thrown her first pitch for the Saints in the bottom of the first inning. Blanton allowed two unearned in the first but shut out Upper Lake the rest of the way. She finished with a four-hitter that included nine strikeouts and no walks.

Maycee Farrell went 1-for-3 with two RBIs for St. Helena. Addison Vipond went 1-for-2 with a RBI for the Cougars, who also received hits from Kylee Solorio, Rilee Sperber and Jordyn Parker.

Krya Santos was the losing pitcher.
