MIDDLETOWN >> Xavier Yebra’s two goals propelled the Middletown Middle School co-ed soccer team to a 2-0 victory over the Mountain Vista Lancers on Wednesday afternoon in Middletown.
Playing its final home game of the season, the Broncos honored their eighth-graders, which appeared to fire up the team, according to head coach Ernest Pulido said. “The team was fired up on their eighth-grade night. It was a tough, physical game, just like the last one against Mountain Vista. Our keeper, Ruben Rincon, denied anything that came his way.”
Isaac Delgado assisted on one of Yebra’s goals as the Broncos improved to 6-1 in league and 7-1 overall.
“They capitalized on our mistakes,” Mountain Vista head coach Oscar Lopez said. “My kids played hard, but the mental edge wasn’t there.”
Mountain Vista is 3-2 in league and 9-5 overall.
Both teams return to action Monday at 4:30 p.m. when Middletown visits Upper Lake and Kelseyville hosts Terrace.
