FORT BRAGG >> Carter Killion pitched a five-inning perfect game as the Fort Bragg Timberwolves beat Upper Lake 21-0 in North Central League I varsity baseball action Wednesday afternoon in Fort Bragg.

The Timberwolves (5-4 league, 10-8 overall) hit three home runs in support of Killion, who struck out nine. One of the three was a grand slam.

Upper Lake’s Jimmy Sanchez nearly broke up the perfect game and no-hitter with a hard-hit ball to the left side in the top of the fourth inning, but Fort Bragg’s third baseman backhanded the ball and made an accurate throw to first base for the out.

“It was a bang-bang play,” Upper Lake head coach Don Meri said. “There were three bang-bang plays, but nothing I could jump up and down about (to argue). The pitcher should buy that guy (third baseman) a dinner.”

Mikel Compton started on the mound for Upper Lake (1-7, 3-11) and took the loss. He allowed five runs in 1 1/3 innings.

The same two teams meet Friday in Upper Lake at 4 p.m.
