KHS three-sport seniors reached postseason in fall, winter, spring seasons

LAKE COUNTY >> Kelseyville High School graduated seniors Kyle Watkins and Cali Schnabl are finalists for the Lake County Sports Athlete of the Year award sponsored by the Lake County Adult Softball Association.
The award honors juniors or seniors who compete in at least two varsity sports and are in good academic standing at their respective schools. Athlete of the Year and Coach of the Year winners will be announced later this month.
Watkins and Schnabl competed in three sports for the Knights. Watkins earned All-North Central League I first-team honors in football, basketball and baseball, helping Kelseyville win outright league championships in football and baseball. Kelseyville just missed another title in basketball, posting an 11-3 record that was one game behind co-champions Middletown and St. Helena.
Schnabl was the league co-MVP for the NCL I-champion Knights in volleyball as well as a second-team selection in basketball as Kelseyville tied Middletown for the league title. She reached the playoffs again in softball as the Knights advanced to the North Coast Section Division 6 semifinals after a third-place league finish.
Kyle Watkins
In football, Watkins rushed for 1,033 yards and 15 touchdowns in only nine games – he missed two with an injury – as Kelseyville went 8-0 in league play and 9-2 overall. Watkins led the Knights in receiving with 24 catches for 463 yards and five TDs, and in total touchdowns (20) and points scored (120). Watkins’ 1,496 all-purpose yards were second on the team.
In basketball, Watkins averaged 15.9 points and 8.3 rebounds a game, both teams highs, and tied for the team lead with 2.2 assists per game. He scored his 1,000th career point late in the regular season and finished with 1,100. The Knights ended up 18-12 overall, including a 2-2 record in the Division 5 playoffs.
In baseball, Watkins batted .433 as the Knights’ leadoff hitter and was among team leaders in most offensive categories, including 32 runs (tied for first), 29 hits (second), 18 RBIs (fifth), five doubles (second), and two triples (tied for first). Kelseyville finished 13-1 in league play and 19-5 overall, reaching the quarterfinals of the Division 3 playoffs.
Cali Schnabl
Schnabl was the standout libero for a Kelseyville volleyball team that opened its league schedule with five straight wins and closed it with seven consecutive victories for a 12-2 record. Kelseyville beat San Lorenzo in the opening round of the Division 3 playoffs before losing to eventual section champion St. Joseph Notre Dame in the quarterfinals.
Schnabl’s play at guard in basketball helped Kelseyville win another league championship, again with a 12-2 record, as the Knights tied Middletown for first place. The Knights earned a home game in the Division 3 playoffs but fell to Fortuna in a first-round game.
In softball, Schnabl helped the Knights reach the playoffs in a third consecutive sport, splitting time between the outfield and infield.
