4×100 girls frosh-soph relay team places first

ST. HELENA >> Upper Lake High School’s frosh-soph girls 4×100-meter relay team finished first Thursday afternoon during a Coastal Mountain Conference track and field meet in St. Helena.
“I only took a small part of my team today, but we did well,” Upper Lake head coach Thomas Santana said. “We went out there and a lot of my athletes hit personal marks.”
Kaylin Smith, Rylee Zimmerschied, Kenzie Foley and Alexis Robbins teamed up to win the 4×100. Smith also won the 100 and finished second in the 200 while Zimmerschied finished first in the 400 with teammate Foley taking third. Robbins finished third in the 200 and fourth in the 100.
“They came out and did great,” Santana said of Smith, Zimmerschied, Foley and Robbins. “I can’t wait to see how the rest of the season goes for them.”
In frosh-soph boys action, Roberto Urucha came in third in the 400 and fourth in the 800.
In the varsity girls division, Alexis Peregrina placed second in the 400 while Saphira Hughes cleared 15 feet to place second in the long jump.
In the varsity boys division, Jakob Estrada jumped 35 feet, 3 inches in the triple jump, his first time competing in that event. He finished second.
“I’m proud of all my athletes that competed today,” Santana said.
