Middletown beats Fort Bragg 3-2 in nine-inning thriller

MIDDLETOWN >>> Sarah Fetters singled home Ally Cherry from third base with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift the Middletown Mustangs to their first North Central League I softball win of the season, a 3-2 extra-inning victory over the Fort Bragg Timberwolves on Monday afternoon in Middletown.

Cherry also scored a run in the bottom of the seventh, racing home on a wild pitch, to tie it at 2-2 and force extra innings.

Both pitchers – Middletown’s Taluelah Madrid and Fort Bragg’s Nyelli Padilla – went the distance. Madrid scattered six hits, struck out eight and walked none while Padilla allowed seven hits, struck out one and walked six.

Fetters (2-for-3), Cherry (2-for-4, two doubles) and Allison Pina (2-for-3) sparked Middletown’s offense. Autumn Clark added a double.

Middletown took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Fort Bragg (1-4, 2-9) pushed ahead with two runs in the top of the fifth.

Both teams return to action Tuesday at 4 p.m. Middletown visits Upper Lake while Fort Bragg hosts St. Helena.
