UNION CITY >> Three-time Coastal Mountain Conference South tennis champion Middletown High School had its season come to a close with a 7-0 loss to No. 1 seed James Logan High School on Tuesday in the opening round of the North Coast Section Division 2 Team Championships in Union City.

While CMC teams play matches that consist of five matches (three singles, two doubles) during the regular season, sectional playoffs use a seven-match format (four singles, three doubles).

“We had to forfeit third doubles because Siobhan (Ryan) was sick,” Middletown head coach Tony Hart said.

In singles action, Will Hoskins fell 6-0, 6-2 to Yash Batra in first singles, Harrison Brown dropped a 6-1, 6-1 decision to Jace Tran in second singles, Leland Pike lost 6-0, 6-0 to Jai Kapil in third singles, and Anthony Lopez fell 6-1, 6-0 to Matthew Huiltron in fourth singles.

In the two contested doubles matches, Luis Pamatz and Nalu Johnson dropped a 6-1, 6-1 decision in first doubles while Brady Perreault and Koa Johnson lost 6-0, 6-0 in second doubles.

“Everyone played the best they could,” Hart said. “I’m very proud of this team. We won seven more games than last year.”

Added Hart, “We had a great season and some great memories.”

Middletown lost 7-0 to eventual Division 2 champion Branson School of Ross in the first round a year ago.
