RENO >> When he missed two months with a broken wrist earlier this season, winning the coveted eagle trophy at the Reno Worlds was probably the last thing John Young expected as a member of the Gladiators Wrestling Club.
On Saturday, Young just did that. He went 3-2 during the competition, all three of his wins coming by major decision, to secure that eagle trophy.
“We commend John Young, a remarkable student-athlete, on his exceptional resilience and commitment to excellence, overcoming an early season wrist injury to shine at the Reno World’s 2026 folkstyle season finale with an impressive eagle,” Gladiators head coach Jonathan Philpot said. “Great job kid!”
Young was the lone Gladiator competing at this year’s event.
