Team brings home 15 medals from Battle for The Strait Tournament in Benicia

BENICIA >> The Gladiator Wrestling Club came home with three first-place medals, six seconds and six thirds after competing in the 2025 Battle for The Strait Tournament last weekend in Benicia.
Eighth-grader Cameryn Gamble-Ray went 4-1 on the day with two pins and a technical fall while bringing home first- and second-place medals.
Thomas Philpot also scored a first-place medal by going 2-0 with two pins.
The third and final first-place medal went to Elijah Tucker, who also finished fourth in another division. He was 3-4 on the day with three pins.
Other second-place medals went to Alley Oakes, who was 3-1 with one pin and one technical fall; to Gary Oakes, who went 3-1 with two pins and one technical fall; to John Young, who went 2-1 with two pins; and to Amias Kennedy and Judah O’Keefe, both 1-1.
Bringing home third-place medals were Nevaeh Barocio, Kylie Dugger, Jaymen Bagsby, Jameson Philpot, Gion Gibson and Anastasia Garcia.
“It was a great first tournament to attend and I am proud of every athlete stepping on the mat,” head coach Jonathan Philpot said.
The Gladiator Wrestling Club hits the road Sunday, Nov. 23 to attend the SAWA Jr. Husky Tournament at Sutter High School. Gladiator Wrestling Club’s national team will be attending the World of Wrestling Kickoff in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
