KELSEYVILLE >> In a much-improved effort from their first meeting with Pomolita earlier this month, the Mountain Vista Lancers dropped a 1-0 non-league decision in middle school co-ed soccer action Wednesday in Kelseyville.
“We fell asleep on a corner kick and they knocked it in,” Mountain Vista head coach Oscar Lopez said of Pomolita’s goal with about 10 minutes left in the second half. “We played way better than the last time we faced them.”
Pomolita beat Mountain Vista 9-0 in Ukiah when the teams met for the first time.
“We spent about 80 percent of the game on their side of the field,” Lopez said. “Their keeper made three saves right at the line. It was a case of we played well but just couldn’t score.”
While Mountain Vista couldn’t find the net, Pomolita’s head coach and assistant coach couldn’t keep their cool. Both received yellow cards at one point, and the head coach was later ejected after picking up a second yellow card, according to Lopez.
“It was a very different game with them this time,” Lopez said.
Lopez praised the play of keeper Walker Holt as well as Anthony Arias, Inteus Lopez and Erik Gomez.
“Props to our back line,” Lopez said. “They did their job.”
