Middletown Composite riders come away with fifth-, eighth-place finishes

LA GRANDE >> Kiera Murray of the Middletown Composite Mountain Bike Team placed second in the varsity girls division during a race held Saturday at the Exchequer course near Lake Don Pedro.

Murray completed three 5.8-mile laps, 17.4 miles overall, on a course that climbs 700 feet in elevation, in a time of 1 hour, 20 minutes, 37.44 seconds. The race winner had a time of 1:18:44.78.

Also reaching the medal podium for Middletown Composite was Makayla Davis, who was fifth in the eighth-grade girls division.

Among other Middletown Composite riders, Wyatt Davis finished 23rd out of 40 rides in the varsity boys division with a time of 1:14:48.79, also for three laps totaling 17.4 miles.

Camille Pyska in the junior varsity1 girls division also completed 17.4 miles, placing 20 out of 23 riders in 1:43:32.25.

In the junior varisty2 boys division, which featured 105 riders, Landon Williams placed 32nd, completing two laps of 5.8 miles each in 55:01. Blake Norris was 53rd in 1:01.10, Eli Norris was 67th in 1:04.26, and Jacob Counter was 78th in 1:08.22.

Jeremiah Sanchez placed 70th in the freshman race of 11.6 miles in 1:10.33.

In the developmental division for sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade riders, all completing two laps on a 3.3-mile course that features a climb of 444 feet in elevation, Davis led the way with her eight-place finish in the eighth-grade girls division. Despite a riding colliding with her, resulting in both rider and bike sustaining damage, she reached the medal podium with a time of 36:46. Teammate Gabriela Milagros Ornelas-Vargas came in eighth.

Among eighth-grade boys, Asher Pyska placed ninth in the 66-rider field with a time of 30:04 while Middletown’s Tanner Hicks (36:15) and Lucas Counter (42:51) finished farther back in the pack.

In the seventh-grade boys race, one featuring a field of 72 riders, Gabe Schneider had a time of 38:00. Teammates Matty Sanchez and Asher Volpe also took part.
