UKIAH >> Mountain Vista Middle School’s softball season opened with a 9-2 non-league loss Wednesday against Pomolita Middle School in Ukiah.

“We faced a good team in Pomolita but I’m proud of how well we played,” Mountain Vista head coach DJ Kennedy said. “We are a young team, so today was the first experience playing at this level for a lot of our players. We did a lot of great things and I’m looking forward to watching our team improve over the rest of the year.”

Kaitlyn Tarin, Maylee Antoni and Fiona White all had hits for the Lancers, and White also drove in a run. Payton Alvarez had the team’s other RBI.

Nevaeh Davis, the first of two Mountain Vista pitchers, took the loss. Davis and reliever Antoni combined to strike out six.

Mountain Vista (0-1) hosts Eagle Peak on Monday at 4 p.m.
