Strong second half carries Upper Lake Middle School A boys to win

UPPER LAKE >> The Upper Lake A middle school boys basketball team knocked off Mountain Vista Middle School 45-27 on Monday night in Upper Lake.

“We scored just 15 points in the first half, which was our slowest offensive start this season,” Upper Lake head coach Dani Paige Gudmundson said. “Once things settled, the boys really took control. We scored 30 points in the second half, including 20 points in the fourth quarter, which reflected must better execution, energy and defensive pressure.”

Bennett Guardino’s double-double of 15 point and 11 rebounds led the Wildcats while Jose Delgado Beecher added 11 points, three assists and four steals. Kayden Beecher finished with seven points, five rebounds and three steals while Elon Florz contributed six points, four rebounds, five assists and three steals. Desmond Solomon had four points and nine rebounds.

“Overall, I’m proud of the group for finding a way to win and continuing to grow,” Gudmundson said.

Upper Lake is 5-0 in league and 9-0 overall.
