MIDDLETOWN >> Lower Lake High School opened its Coastal Mountain Conference dual-meet wrestling schedule at home Wednesday night, beating Cloverdale 58-4 and Middletown 52-24 at the Tallman Gym.

Lower Lake won six out of the seven contested matches against Cloverdale. Highlights included Arturo Gudino moving up two weight classes to 122 pounds and prevailing by 17-3 major decision. Winning by pin were Trojans Jesse Saldana, Adin Griffin, Ivan Perales, Joseph Trongo and AJ Myer.

In one of the night’s more exciting matches, William Onteveros fell 9-8 to Cloverdale’s Evan Hieserich.

“William showed his poise and grit, and the coaches could haven’t asked for anything else,” Lower Lake head coach Troy Dahneke said.

Lower Lake’s Greer Nichols, a section medalist in 2025, beat Middletown’s Sophie Yebra in the first match of the night between the Trojans and visiting Mustangs.

Gudino and Saldana won by technical falls to put Lower Lake ahead in team points following a Middletown victory at 115 pounds. The Mustangs also won at 130 pounds where Georgia Emerson scored a pin.

Pins by Daniel Garner and Maribel Myer helped the Trojans push in front to stay.

“Maribel showed her grit as well, getting taken down first and coming back with her own takedown,” Dahneke said.

Added Dahneke of his team’s performance, “I’m very proud of them. They fought hard and wrestled well. We’ve got a lot of work to do still. We’re just getting started.”

Lower Lake, Willits and Fort Bragg are on the road for a CMC match next Wednesday against Credo in Rohnert Park.
