Trojans square overall record at 7-7 with 67-45 victory at Lower Lake

LOWER LAKE >> The Lower Lake Trojans pulled away with a 23-9 second quarter and beat Williams 67-45 in non-league varsity boys basketball action Thursday night at Lower Lake.
Lower Lake (7-7) held a 16-15 lead after one quarter before pulling away from the Yellowjackets (3-10).
“We played some pry good defense and were able to get some steals and run the floor,” Lower Lake head coach Jay Jakubowski said.
Brody Shields and Kaimelo Connolly led a balanced Lower Lake attack with 13 and 12 points, respectively. Shields also had three 3-pointers. Adrian Negrete and Noah Hakala added 11 points apiece while Tucker Benson and Steven Rich each had six.
“We were able to play everybody,” Jakubowski said.
Lower Lake is home again Friday to play St. Helena in a North Central League I game that is part of a four-game set between the two schools.
In JV action Thursday, Lower Lake beat Williams 54-44, bouncing back from a 59-15 league loss Tuesday at home to Middletown.
“After a very difficult loss to Middletown Tuesday, we needed a reminder of who we really are as a team,” Lower Lake head coach Latoya Fortino said. “It’s difficult in trying to get players to believe in themselves and trust the process when we suffer a loss like we did, but they did it.”
Added Fortino, “They came out tonight and listened. They executed moving the ball, played defense and finished strong. Williams didn’t give up. They played a great game and had some really great outside shots.”
With point guard Adrian Guzman setting up the offense, Aiden Osorio went on to score a team-best 14 points, including three 3-pointers. Roy Percoats added 12 points.
“Our point guard, Adrian Guzman, created some opportunities for his teammates to score,” Fortino said. “He finished some difficult entry drives and hit his free throws.”
Added Fortino, “Everyone contributed to tonight’s success.”
