WILLITS >> Atiana Patino struck out six while also going 2-for-5 with two RBIs at the plate as the Clear Lake High School softball team beat Willits 9-3 in non-league softball action Friday in Willits.

Weather conditions weren’t ideal – light rain fell at different points of the game – but the Cardinals (3-1) still won their third straight.

“Our baserunning was a little bit off, we have to work on that,” Clear Lake head coach Scott Schaefers said.

With two starters missing the game, the Cardinals started three freshmen.

“If we have players out, it’s next lady up,” Schaefers said. “We were a little bit limited in what we could do, but hopefully we’ll get our players back soon.”

Patino scattered six hits and also walked six while recording the complete game.

Karsyn Greer (1-for-2) and Ashlynn Cruz (1-for-4) knocked in two runs apiece, and Cali Albaum had a double. Emily Gersalia had the Cardinals’ other hit.

Clear Lake opens North Central League I play on Friday at home against defending champion St. Helena at 4 p.m.
