Twenty-three club members claim medals at New Year’s Resolution Tournament in M’town

MIDDLETOWN >> Twenty-three out of 37 Middletown Wrestling Club members won medals in their own event, the Middletown New Year’s Resolution Tournament, on Sunday at Middletown High School.

First-place finishes went to Carmine Del Sarto (8-under, 56 pounds), Amias Kennedy (6-under, 53-56 pounds), Jaxx Salter (10-under, 67 pounds), Matty Sanchez (14-under, 80 pounds), Carson Mackey (10-under, 93 pounds), and Andres Yebra (14-under, 92-96 pounds).

Coming in second in their respective weight classes were Mason Lau (8-under, 53 pounds), Cary Glasgow Jr. (14-under, 80 pounds), Kian Woods (10-under, 84 pounds), Zethanie Kohl (12-under, 82-86 pounds), Westley Cory (6-under, 85-95 pounds), Kameron Colston (14-under, 126 pounds), Tanner Breland (14-under, 132 pounds), and Diana Glasgow (14-under girls, 125-135 pounds).

Finishing third were David Marin (8-under, 45-49 pounds), Melody Lloyd (8-under, 62 pounds), Augustus Irwin (10-under, 71 pounds), Bradley Parks (12-under, 74 pounds), Wyatt Cooley (12-under, 78 pounds), Job Sanchez (12-under, 98 pounds), Knox Chestnut (12-under, 98 pounds), Giselle Garcia (14-under girls, 125-135 pounds), and Troy Johnston (14-under, 140 pounds).

Lau had the day’s fastest pin at eight seconds.

Middletown finished with 356.5 points to claim the team title. The next-closest team had 241 points.

“We are very proud of all of our wrestlers and thankful for all the support from all the teams that showed up,” Middletown coach Ariana Fanucchi said. “See everyone next year for the 2027 Middletown New Year’s Resolution Tournament.”
