SUTTER >> Members of the CORE Wrestling Club kept plenty busy last weekend while participating in the Battle in the Buttes tournament on Saturday in Sutter and the Bulldawg Bash on Sunday in Folsom.
During the Battle in the Buttes, Kaitlyn Crow won the 12-and-under girls weight class (75 pounds), pinning three opponents along the way. Colin Crow finished second in the 10-and-under division (53-57 pounds), going 2-1, while Will Villa went 2-2 with one pin to place third in the 10-and-under division (59-63 pounds).
“He’s continuing to improve in every tournament,” CORE head coach Danny Cuellar said of Villa. “I am very proud of this young man. The future for him is bright.”

All five CORE wrestlers attending the Bulldawg Bash brought home medals, including firsts from Wyatt Hooten and Colin Crow. Hooten was first in the 12-and-under division (67-69 pounds), going 4-0 with two pins and two technical falls. Crow, competing in the 10-and-under division (54-55 pounds), also went 4-0, including two pins and one tech fall.
Second-place medals went to Eric Holley, Kaitlyn Crown and Tucker Heywood. Holley and Heywood both went 3-1 while Crow went 2-1.
“Everyone came to wrestle this weekend,” Cuellar said. “They had great matches even when they didn’t win. Their opponents felt their presence. No points were easy for them.”
CORE placed 14th out of 49 teams.
CORE will attend the Takedown Before Christmas tournament hosted by the Gladiator Wrestling Club on Sunday at Lower Lake High School.
