MIDDLETOWN >> The Middletown Middle School A and B girls basketball teams hosted Baechtel Grove of Willits in a pair of non-league games Tuesday night.

Middletown’s A team won 46-28 behind 15 points, six rebounds and two blocks from Sophia Azevedo, 10 points and three steals from Remmi Harbison, and a 5-for-6 night at the free-throw line from Katera Gotz, who finished with seven points.

Also contributing to the win were Peyton Beeler with four steals and three rebounds, and Olivia May with seven rebounds.

“Getting ready for the Crescent City tournament (on Friday against Palermo) we tried a lot of new things both offensively and defensively, and the girls responded well,” Middletown head coach Wayne Harbison said.

Baechtel Grove won 14-13 in the B game even though Middletown limited its opponent to two second-half points.

Lol Fults, Madison Lewis and Avery Zolensky had four points apiece for Middletown.

“Our second half was much better defensively,” Middletown head coach Dustin Fults said. “We just couldn’t get one more shot to fall in the last minutes. The girls played their hearts out.”

Middletown resumes its league schedule Dec. 17 in Upper Lake.
