SUTTER >> Eric Holley and Wyatt Hooten of the CORE Wrestling Club came away with second-place medals from the SAWA Jr. Husky Tournament last weekend at Sutter High School.

Holley, competing in the bantam division (52-55 pounds), went 2-1, rallying from a loss in his first match to win the next two. Holley scored a takedown against the opponent who beat him, a wrestler he failed to score a point against the last time the two squared off.

Hooten went 2-1 in the novice division (65-69 pounds). Like teammate Holley, he lost his first match 14-0 but battled back to win his next two, including a 1-0 decision in his second match.

William Villa Jr. placed third in two divisions – intermediate (67-72 pounds) and intermediate (70-71 pounds).

Ryder White Eagle finished third in the middle school boys division (123-127 pounds) and fourth in middle school boys (128-138 pounds).

Other third-place finishes went to Liliana Williams in the middle school girls division (103-110 pounds) and to Timothy Williams in the novice division (74-77 pounds).

Sampson Wetmore came in fourth in the novice division (89-97 pounds).

“All in all, everyone wrestled and fought,” CORE coach Danny Cuellar said. “They gave max effort and had great attitudes. For us coaches, it is all we could ask for.”
