Cougars rush for 500 yards led by Beecher’s 240 yards, two touchdowns

UPPER LAKE >> Playing what head coach John Toohey called its “cleanest game of the season,” the Upper Lake High School junior varsity football team rushed for 500 yards in a 52-28 win over the Lower Lake Trojans during North Central League I action Friday in Upper Lake.”
“In terms of ball security and penalties, it’s exactly the progress we’ve been pushing for as this young team matures,” Toohey said.
Chris Beecher had a huge game for the Cougar (3-3 league, 4-4 overall) on offense and defense. He not only led Upper Lake with 240 yards and two touchdowns on the ground, but he had 10 tackles and a pick-six interception on defense.
Billy Pimentel also had a big game on both sides of the ball, including 110 rushing yards and two touchdowns, and a 52-yard interception return on defense. Luke Green just missed 100 yards, settling for 99 yards, but also had 38 receiving yards.
Other team leaders were Sean Way with 43 rushing yards, a touchdown, and 37 receiving yards, and quarterback Isaiah Pena, who went 13-for-21 for 101 yards but also had a rushing touchdown.
On defense, Chase Noble finished with nine tackle and two sacks, Kayden Sneed had six tackle and an interception, and Jordan Reyes added seven tackles and a sack.
“Proud of our discipline and growth,” Toohey said. “Excited to keep building.”
Upper Lake plays its final road game of the season Friday night in Kelseyville at 5:30 p.m.
