ROHNERT PARK >> Middletown’s Will Hoskins and Kelseyville’s Maddy Borghesani advanced to the semifinal round in singles during the opening rounds of the Coastal Mountain Conference Tennis Championships Friday at Magnolia Park in Rohnert Park.

The tournament concludes Saturday.

Hoskins (boys singles) and Borghesani (girls singles) join the Kelseyville girls doubles team of Olivia Raabe and Riley Hanson in reaching Saturday’s semifinals. Borghesani is the No. 3 seed in girls singles, Hopkins is the No. 4 seed in boys singles, and Raabe-Hanson are the No. 4-seeded team in girls doubles.

Boys singles

Hoskins defeated Ryan Taylor of Kelseyville 6-4, 6-0 in the quarterfinals after an 8-2 win over Wyatt Hendricks of Christian Academy in the opening round.

“Will really played well as the day went on,” Middletown head coach Tony Hart said. “He controlled points and had his cross-court winner working flawlessly.”

Middletown’s Harrison Brown also won his first match, beating Damian Eligio of Anderson Valley 8-2, but Brown ran into No. 1 seed Alex Sae of Sonoma Academy, falling 6-0, 6-0 in the quarterfinals.

“It was good for Harrison to bounce back from his loss against Eligio (earlier in the week in a conference match),” Hart said. “He is only a sophomore he is excited about continuing to improve.”

Girls singles

Borghesani advanced into the semifinals with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Kalia Ignatriva of Technology.

“Maddy has a rematch (in the semifinals) against an opponent from Sonoma Academy to whom she lost in the finals last year,” Kelseyville head coach Andy Dobusch said. “There’s going to be some great, high-level tennis tomorrow.”

Girls doubles

Kelseyville’s Raabe and Hanson beat Rileigh O’Malley and Sheridan O’Malley of Victory Christian 6-2, 6-1 in the quarterfinals.

Boys doubles

Middletown’s Leland Pike and Anthony Lopez, the No. 4-seeded team, received a forfeit in the first round before losing to the No. 2-seeded team of Gan Dunnington and Renzo Ganso of St. Helena, 6-0, 6-3.

“Not having a warmup match and sitting around for five hours left them a little slow to start, but they managed to get a few games in the second set that they can build their confidence on for next year,” Hart said.
