CLOVERDALE >> Another game, another lost opportunity for the Kelseyville High School varsity boys soccer team Wednesday during a 2-1 setback to the Cloverdale Eagles in North Central League I action in Cloverdale.

At least that was Kelseyville head coach KC White’s assessment of the situation.

“Another game where I felt like we were the better team, but a couple mistakes led to the two Cloverdale goals,” White said. “It was all us in the first half. Opportunity after opportunity went by without capitalizing with a goal. We didn’t allow a single shot in the first half.”

Cloverdale scored early in the second half off a corner kick that was headed into the goal.

“We didn’t mark properly, and the header found the back of the net,” White said.

Kelseyville soon answered, Diego Rico’s penalty kick knotting the score at 1-1.

The Eagles pushed ahead to stay later in the half.

“My keeper came out of the goal to defend a ball, but couldn’t clear it,” White said.

“I don’t know how many times this season I felt like we were the better team, but this was another instance. We gave up two goals on two shots, that was it. We constantly pressured but couldn’t find the back of the net.”

White praised the play of his defense as well as Rico’s effort.

“I thought my defense played well tonight by limiting their opportunities,” White said. “Diego Rico had a great game as well. He delivered some great balls today, but we couldn’t pull it off.”

Kelseyville is 1-4-1 in league play and 2-16-3 overall.

The Knights will honor their seniors Saturday as they wrap up the season at home against St. Vincent at 1 p.m.
