Ally Abreu, Chevelle Sprague each have two hits in middle school softball action

LUCERNE >> Mountain Vista beat Lucerne 13-3 in middle school softball action Wednesday in Lucerne. The game was halted after four innings because of the 10-run mercy rule.
Ally Abreu, Lucerne’s catcher, went 2-for-3 with a double and scored a run. Chevelle Sprague went 2-for-2 with a double and a RBI.
Losing pitcher Angelina Gozony struck out eight and walked four.
Lucerne coach Fred Miller praised the play of shortstop Sophie Basurto, outfielders Anayeli Giron, Bella O’Sullivan, Lucy Boke and Shalik Aguilar, and Lola Kella.
Natalia Harley went 0-for-2 with a RBI.
“Head ump Kevin Henderson told the girls after the game, ‘This is not the same Lucerne team he’s used to,’ ” Lucerne head coach Fred Miller said. “My girls’ eyes lit up. They have never been so happy after a loss. That was a big compliment from a guy who has been around for a long time.”
Carly Gleason went 3-for-3 with four RBIs for Mountain Vista. Maylee Antoni, Madi Byrne and Kiera Mick each had two hits.
The Lancers improved to 6-2.
