Lady Mustangs hold off Willits

WILLITS >> Willits threw a scare Middletown’s way with a five-run bottom of the seventh inning, but the Mustangs held on to defeat the Wolverines 11-9 in non-league softball action Wednesday afternoon at Willits.

Winning pitcher Brooklyn Wood went 3-for-4 with two doubles and four RBIs as the Mustangs (3-0) beat the Wolverines for the second time this season.

Trailing 3-2 after one inning, Middletown pushed ahead to stay with a four-run top of the second. The Mustangs took an 11-4 lead into the bottom of the seventh when Wood walked her only two batters of the game.

Bev Fetters and Sarah Fetters had two hits apiece for Middletown.

Middletown remains on the road Friday to play Cloverdale at 4 p.m., the North Central League I opener for both teams.
