HEALDSBURG >> The Lower Lake Trojans trailed by only three points at halftime, but the Healdsburg Greyhounds pulled away in the second half for a 62-41 win in non-league varsity boys basketball action Saturday night in Healdsburg.
“Our team played fairly well for the first half,” Lower Lake head coach Anthony Farrington said. “For the second half, our players went back to the style of play that I have been trying to break the from, one-on-one play without setting up the offense, failure to pass and move the ball while forcing shots and creating too many turnovers. In addition, we lacked hustle on defense; and we were lazy in boxing out for boards. In short, we failed to focus on the small things in order to play good ball tonight.”
Tucker Benson scored 10 points to lead the Trojans (2-20), Luke Campbell added nine more, and Noah Hakala had eight.
“We continue to play strong ball for the first half, but then for the second half a switch flips, and we have sudden amnesia and forget the basics,” Farrington said. “Unfortunately, many of our players have historically only known losing, and it’s been very difficult to shift their mindset so that they know that they can truly win and beat teams.
“I have to give our players great credit. We have a great group of players and keep a great attitude despite our win-loss record. As long as they keep showing up, I am going to show up for them,” Farrington added.
Lower Lake hits the road Wednesday to play North Central League I leader St. Helena.
