UKIAH >>” With several players out sick with the flu, the Kelseyville High School junior varsity boys basketball team dropped a 3-0 non-league decision to the Ukiah Wildcats on Saturday in Ukiah.
“The flu has infiltrated Kelseyville High School and my team has been no exception,” Kelseyville head coach KC White said. “I had about five or six guys have to miss today’s game because they were sick. I’m not feeling so hot either, honestly, but we managed through it.”
Added White, “The first half did not go very well, but I’m proud to say that we held them scoreless in the second half, which is a big accomplishment considering my bench was very small. As has been the case almost weekly this season, I started a new keeper today. Jake Smart played pretty well back there. I was impressed with his sliding skills; something he definitely picked up from baseball.”
White also gave high marks to the play of Roman Mathis.
“This flu going around is no joke, so I’m supremely impressed with the effort put forth today by Roman Mathis. He could have easily not come today, but he came and he played the whole game. That dude is a complete gamer, and I’m very proud to have been his coach this season.
Kelseyville (1-6) returns to action next Saturday in Ukiah at 1 p.m.
