MIDDLETOWN >> Anaya Kilstrom turned in a strong overall effort Monday night as the Middletown Middle School A girls basketball team defeated Mountain Vista Middle School of Kelseyville 20-6 in league action.
Kilstrom finished with eight points, nine rebounds, six steals and two blocks as the Broncos improved to 3-0 in league play and 5-0 overall. Emma Davis added six points while Grace Williams had five points, four steals and one block.
Middletown head coach Shannon Williams also noted contributions from Nevaeh Wienke and Alina Kilstrom, each with four steals, and Alynna Jimenez Cruz, who blocked two shots.
“We came out of the gate playing tough defense,” Williams said. “We slowed down a little more than I would have liked on offense in the second half, but we still managed to hold them to only six points all game.”
Added Williams, “Anaya Kilstrom was everywhere today, getting steals, assists, blocks and rebounds.”
Middletown’s A team hits the road this weekend to participate in the Jaycees Tournament in Crescent City. There are six brackets, with eight teams per bracket, and the Broncs are competing in the AAA division.
“So we will have some excellent competition,” Williams said.
In the B game on Monday, Middletown won 22-2 behind Sophia Azevedo’s double-double of 10 points and 12 rebounds. Rylee Gabbert had seven points and four rebounds while Camila Galvan pulled down nine rebounds and had four steals.
After a 5-0 first half, Middletown broke things open with 17 points over the final two quarters.
“Our shots were not going during the first half,” Middletown head coach Erika Galvan said. “We scored 11 points in the third quarter and kept momentum going to finish the game.
Added Galvan, “MVMS has some solid defenders, and they hustled hard.”
