ORLAND >> Orland scored twice in the first half and went on to hold off the Kelseyville Knights 2-1 in non-league girls soccer action Tuesday in Orland.
“Orland came out strong in the first half, scoring their first goal minutes into the game,” Kelseyville head coach Irma Rodriguez said. “Their second goal came in the 35th minutes of the first half on a corner kick.”
The Trojans held Kelseyville (2-2) off the scoreboard until Mikaela Rico scored 16 minutes into the second half.
“We seem to start off slow in the first half and then pick up momentum in the second half of games,” Rodriguez said. “But unfortunately, this isn’t helping us.”
While Rodriguez said she was impressed with the play of her team in the second half, it didn’t make up for a lethargic first half.
“We just couldn’t capitalize on our scoring opportunities,” she said. “We need to focus on positivity and learn from the mistakes made. We need to focus on growing and building our team back up.”
Kelseyville returns to action Saturday against Berean Christian in Walnut Creek at 11 a.m.
