LAKE COUNTY >> Jayden Teabo of Kelseyville and Cat Barriga of Middletown are finalists for the Lake County Sports Athlete of the Year Award sponsored by the Lake County Officials Association

Both seniors, Teabo and Barriga were three-sport standouts at their respective schools.

Jayden Teabo

Teabo was the dominant player on defense during the 2024 North Central League I football season as the Knights went undefeated (8-0) in league play. Among team leaders in tackles and the team leader with eight sacks, Teabo was named the league’s defensive MVP. He also started on offense at tight end, catching nine passes for 154 yards with one touchdown.

As a member of the Kelseyville basketball team, which was in the running for a league title until a late-season forfeit knocked Kelseyville out of a tie for the league lead, Teabo played center for the Knights, averaging 2.9 points and 3.8 rebounds a game.

During the boys volleyball season in the spring, Teabo contributed to another league championship as the Knights earned a share of the NCL I title for the second year in a row. He was named to the All-League first team after averaging 3.5 kills per set. He finished with 107 kills overall, the second-best total on the team.

Cat Barriga

Barriga ran cross country during the fall sports season, wrestled during the winter season, and was a track and field team member in the spring.

Middletown finished a close second to St. Helena during the NCL I girls cross country race in 2024. During the Coastal Mountain Conference Cross Country Championships in November at Spring Lake in Santa Rosa, Barriga ran 16th overall and seventh among NCL I runners to earn All-League honors.

During the 2024-25 wrestling season, Barriga placed second at 105 pounds during the North Coast Section Championships and advanced to the CIF State Championships where she won her first match before losing the next two. Along the way Barriga posted her 100th career victory.

Barriga also received a rare honor at the CIF State Championships in Bakersfield where she was a recipient of the Pursuing Victory with Honor award.

Barriga competed in both running and field events for Middletown’s girls track team, which repeated as league champion. Among her best events were the 800 and pole vault.
