Holley’s 13 kills not enough for Mendo

Eagles drop four-set Bay Valley Conference volleyball match to Los Medanos

UKIAH >> Former Middletown High School standout Cora Holley registered a team-best 13 kills Wednesday night, but the Mendocino College Eagles still came up short as visiting Los Medanos College won the Bay Valley Conference match 25-15, 25-20, 19-25, 25-15 in Ukiah.

Holley also led the Eagles (3-5 conference, 9-20 overall) with three blocks.

“Cora had a great all-around match,” Middletown head coach Kat Edmonds said. “She stayed consistent throughout all four sets.”

Montana Wells (Clear Lake) added 10 kills and one block while Stella Hill (Clear Lake) had 15 digs as well as six kills. Setter Jayden Paulich (Kelseyville) finished with 36 assists and 12 digs.

Other Mendocino College leaders were Maddy Brewster (Clear Lake) with seven digs and five kills while Breanna Pyzer (Middletown) with a team-best 18 digs.

“We started off a little slow in the first set and started to play some really good volleyball by the end of set two, which led us to a win in set three,” Edmonds said.

The Eagles honor their sophomores Friday at home against Napa Valley College. Action begins at 6 p.m.
