DAVIS >> The Konocti Youth Soccer League’s under-16 girls entry, The Waves, comprised of players from Kelseyville, Lakeport and Upper Lake, won the Davis Super Rec Cup held Saturday and Sunday at the Davis Legacy Soccer Complex in Davis.

Prior to the weekend tournament, The Waves compiled an 8-0 regular-season record while competing against Sonoma County teams in the Super Rec League. Including tournament games at Davis, the KYSL squad has outscored the competition 40-5.

The team’s standouts on defense were Alex Garcia, Ariel Perez, Evelyn Vargas Zurita, Dezi Anderson and keepers Amelie Davis and Alyna Solorio. Davis and Solorio combined to allow just one goal in four tournament games.

Leading the offense was tournament MVP Luna McCarthy, a midfielder who scored the team’s only goal in a second-round game, and Hailey Perez, who scored two goals in each of the team’s last two games, including two penalty kicks in the championship game.

Team captains Davis and Grace Abreu showed great leadership throughout the tournament, according to head coach Fred Miller, who is assisted by Mark Santos.
