FORT BRAGG >> Fort Bragg pulled away after a 1-0 first half to beat the Upper Lake Cougars 5-0 in North Central League I boys soccer action Tuesday in Fort Bragg.
“We played an amazing first 60 minutes of the game,” Upper Lake head coach Thomas Santana said. “We kept them scoreless early, until about midway through the first half. They were on the attack most of the game, but my defense and keeper kept them at 1 for 60 minutes.”
Upper Lake keeper Kyler Brothers had 14 of his 23 saves in the first half. Mario Olvera added three more saves.
“Kyler took real control of the game no matter which was Fort Bragg attacked,” Santana said. “Kyler found a way to stop the attack. We played amazing. In the last 20 minutes the defense had been on their heels the whole time, so they got tired.”
The Timberwolves scored four late goals to pull away.
Upper Lake (0-2 league, 1-7 overall) had a handful of scoring opportunities but couldn’t take advantage.
“Jaden Nunez had a few good attacks, but we couldn’t capitalize on them,” Santana said. “We are definitely showing signs of improvement now; just putting all the pieces together for all 80 minutes is what we need to work on.”
Fort Bragg improved to 2-0 in league and 6-6-1 overall.
Upper Lake returns to action Thursday at home against Middletown (2-0, 4-3) at 6:15 p.m.
