Mendocino College women open Bay Valley Conference play Wednesday at home

UKIAH >> The Mendocino College women’s volleyball team closed out its preseason schedule by splitting a pair of non-conference matches Friday against College of the Siskiyous and College of the Redwoods in Ukiah.
After dropping a 25-23, 25-17, 25-13 decision to Siskiyous, the Eagles came back later in the day to beat College of the Redwoods 25-16, 21-25, 25-15, 25-11, ending their preseason at 6-15.
“It was nice to end the preseason on a strong win,” Mendocino College head coach Kat Edmonds said. “We played very well as a team. I’m proud of them. The tempo was quick (which we’ve been practicing). Aily had a solid game for us. Montana and Stella were aggressive at the net. Jaydyn Poe was also a huge asset for us in the front row. Bre was the consistent all day and held the defense down.”
Montana Wells (Clear Lake) finished with 16 kills and two blocks while Stella Hill (Clear Lake) added nine kills, 13 digs and three aces. Aily Chavez (Willits) contributed five digs, two kills and two aces, Poe (Upper Lake) had five kills and two digs, and Breanna Pyzer (Middletown) finished with 32 digs.
Also for the Eagles, Maddy Brewster (Clear Lake) added 16 digs, three kills and one block, and Jayden Paulich (Kelseyville) had 39 assists and three aces.
In the early match against Siskiyous, Cora Holley (Middletown) led the Eagles with eight kills and two blocks, Wells had six kills, five digs, and one block, Brewster added 13 digs, three kills and two blocks, Paulich finished with 19 assists, six digs and one ace, and Pyzer had 20 digs and two aces.
“Defensively we played well, and our serve received was strong,” Edmonds said. “Our offense struggled in the second and third sets.”
The Eagles open Bay Valley Conference played Wednesday at home against Solano beginning at 6 p.m.
