LAKEPORT >> Aniya Jauregui and Lindee Bingham combined for 13 aces on Thursday as the Clear Lake Cardinals snapped a three-match North Central League I losing streak with a 25-15, 25-15, 25-16 win over the Lower Lake Trojans in Lakeport.

Bingham also registered a team-best five kills as the Cardinals squared their league record at 3-3.

“The girls brought fantastic energy and focused on next-play mentality,” Clear Lake head coach Izzy Short said. “It was a joy to watch the girls smile and play their game.”

Emily Gersalia had eight assists for the Cardinals.

“Tonight we played really flat, didn’t have the energy to match Clear Lake, either the JV or the varsity,” Lower Lake head coach Shannon Tubbs said. “There were a few players who played really well tonight led by Brooke Benson.”

Benson led the team with four kills and tied teammate Jamiya Lee-Ayers for the blocks lead, each with three. Lee-Ayers had a team-best six digs.

Tubbs also credited Izabela Hernandez with playing her best match of the season.

“She was in the right spots at the right times to make some really nice plays,” Tubbs said.

While the Trojans are still winless in league play at 0-6, Tubbs said his players continue to work hard.

“This has been a roller coaster of a season and the girls have worked really hard with all the obstacles they’ve had to deal with,” Tubbs said. “I’m proud of them for their perseverance and flexibility through it all.”

Clear Lake hosts Middletown (3-3) on Tuesday while Lower Lake returns home to face league-leading Cloverdale (6-1). Junior varsity action at both locations begins at 5 p.m.

“The girls did a great job keeping the pressure on their opponents and kept being aggressive,” Short said.
