SONOMA >> Noah Hakala scored 14 points, but the Lower Lake Trojans lost 71-47 to the Sonoma Valley Dragons in non-league varsity boys basketball action Monday evening in Sonoma.
“The team played a good, competitive first half, but in the third quarter they outscored us 23-5 and we could not recover,” Lower Lake head coach Anthony Farrington said. “This was a senior-dominated (Sonoma) team with quite a bit of height, so we struggled to get the boards and get second shots, and they did a good job hustling.”
Lower Lake (2-15) was able to suit up only seven players, which was a factor down the stretch, according to Farrington.
“We got a bit tired in the second half,” he said.
Ivan DeLeon finished with eight points for the Trojans, Raijhier McKneeley added seven and Steven Rich had six.
“Even though we suffered another loss, our team continues to improve and enhance its level of play,” Farrington said. “I am proud of the team effort.”
Lower Lake closes out the first half of its North Central League I schedule Tuesday at home against Cloverdale, part of a three-game set between the two schools. The junior varsity boys play at 4:30 p.m., the varsity girls follow at 6 p.m., and the varsity boys tip off at 7:30 p.m.
