Former CLHS stars contribute during College of the Redwoods 33-7 win

MERCED >> College of the Redwoods football dominated Merced 33-7 in the opener for both teams Saturday night in Merced where the Corsairs built a 33-0 lead.

For the Corsairs, two former Clear Lake High School stars, both 2024 graduates, saw their first official college action in the season-opening blowout victory. Running back Hank Ollenberger carried the ball four times for 29 yards, including a long gain of 19 yards, and he also caught a 23-yard pass.

Tight end Cody Hayes also logged his first catch, a nine-yard reception.

Two other former CLHS stars and members of the Class of 2024 – Jake Soderquist and Saul Reyes –are red-shirting this season.

The Corsairs (1-0) host Hartnell College (0-0) this Saturday in Eureka at 1 p.m.
