LOWER LAKE >> In another dominant performance, the Lower Lake pee wee youth football team improved to 7-0 on the season with a 30-0 victory over the Westshore Cardinals on Saturday at Gordon Sadler Field in Lower Lake.

The Trojans ran just 10 plays to score their 30 points. Erian Gonzalez carried the ball three times for 68 yards and two touchdowns, and he returned a punt 52 yards for another score.  Camari Onwuasoeze Jr. passed for 95 yards and a touchdown, both of his completions going to William Villa Jr., and Draco Benefield Jr. added a 78-yard punt return for another score.

The mercy rule went into effect in the third quarter.

“Another great game for our kids, and another performance that makes me incredibly proud of this group,” Lower Lake head coach Jamez Conatser said. “Our defense continues to take control of football games. This week we faced a Westshore team that’s headed to the playoffs, and our boys went out there and held them to just 44 yards on 28 plays while keeping another zero on the scoreboard. They continue to impress me week after week.”

Villa Jr. anchored the defense with six tackles, Cristiano Lopez added four more while Benefield, Eli Hermann, John Young and Brayden Walsh had three apiece. Onwuasoeze Jr. and Travis Johnson added two tackles apiece.

“Our special teams really made a statement as well,” Conatser said. “We opened the game by taking the first punt back for a touchdown and later added another punt return touchdown that helped force the mercy rule early in the third quarter. Those are the kinds of plays that can completely change the momentum of a football game.”

Added Conatser, “This was truly a team win, with all three phases of the game contributing,” Conatser said.

Lower Lake hosts Willits on Saturday.
