Serving errors cost Middletown in marathon non-league volleyball action

HEALDSBURG >> Middletown and Healdsburg played a five-set marathon Tuesday night in a non-league varsity volleyball match at Healdsburg.
The host Greyhounds rallied to win the final two sets and the match, taking a 30-28, 22-25, 19-25, 25-19, 15-12 victory that leaves the Mustangs with a 6-5 record.
“Defensively, the girls played hard,” Middletown head coach Erika Galvan said. “In total, the team had 130 positive digs. This contest came down to our serves. We missed 19 total serves for the evening. In close matches like that, we can’t afford to miss that many serves.”
Emma Davis recorded a Middletown-high 25 kills to go along with 17 digs and three aces. Other team leaders were libero Jordyn Harbison with 32 digs, four assists and three aces, Izzi Hoogendoorn with 27 digs, 12 kills and one block, Davis with her 25 kills 17 digs and three aces, Trinity Galvan with 22 digs and 20 assists, and Bridget Lisenbee with 24 assists and three aces.
Healdsburg beat Middletown 25-6, 25-3 in the junior varsity match.
Middletown’s teams play at Kelseyville on Sept. 10 beginning at 5 p.m.
