Middletown knocks off Pierce Bears in 2026 season opener at Bill Foltmer Field

MIDDLETOWN >> Dre Goins had himself quite a game for the Middletown High School junior varsity football team in a 22-14 season-opening victory over the Pierce Bears on Friday evening at Bill Foltmer Field in Middletown.
Goins’ second touchdown of the game, a 65-yard interception return with a little more than a minute left to play, snapped a 14-all tie and carried the Mustangs to the win. He sealed the victory moments later with another interception.
Overall, Goins had a team-best 13 tackles. He also anchored Middletown’s running game with 129 yards on nine carries and a touchdown.
Colton Rodrigues had Middletown’s other touchdown. He finished with 27 yards on five carries.
Quarterback Hudson Kelly completed two of five attempts for 19 yards, including a two-point conversion to Tanner Jordan following Goins’ go-ahead touchdown late in the fourth quarter.
Blake Pullman caught a 17-yard pass in the win.
On defense, David Wallace had an interception.
The Mustangs have a bye this coming Friday before returning to action at home Sept. 11 against Willits at 5 p.m.
