LOWER LAKE >> Scoring three unanswered goals in the second half, the Lower Lake High School girls soccer team rallied from a 3-2 deficit to beat the Middletown Mustangs 5-3 in non-league action Friday at Lower Lake.
“Our girls had a tough first half, but after a pep talk we came back strong and we were able to take the win,” Lower Lake assistant coach Anna Brin said.
Five different Trojans scored as Lower Lake improved to 2-1 on the season. Keina Garcia, Genesis Olivares, Evelyn Vargas, Prisila Martinez and Laylony Barocio all had goals.
“We were blessed with so much talent this year and our team has a lot of fun together,” Brin said. “We can’t wait for the season to continue.”
Middletown built a 3-2 halftime lead on the strength of goals from Ally Cherry, Trinity Wood (on a penalty kick) and Sophia Perez.
“Our plan was to strengthen our defense to keep the 3-2 lead at the half, but Lower Lak came out strong and we still have a few things to iron out,” Middletown head coach Cassi Clark said. “I’m very proud of these girls and how much growth they keep showing from game to game.”
Lower Lake hosts Tomales on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. while Middletown returns home to play Kelseyville at 6:15 p.m.
