Middletown JVs knock off Kelseyville

Mustangs improve to 3-0 with 19-7 league victory

MIDDLETOWN >> Ryan Henning rushed for 160 yards and a touchdown while backfield mate John Finney ran for two more scores as the Middletown High School junior varsity football team beat the Kelseyville Knights 19-7 in North Central League I action at Bill Foltmer Field in Middletown.

It was the league opener for the Mustangs (1-0 league, 3-0 overall) while the Knights fell to 1-1 and 2-2. Middletown jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the second quarter on a Finney 40-yard run. Kelseyville came back to take a 7-6 lead, the halftime score, on a 7-yard run by Jayden Fabisch.

Henning and Finney scored touchdowns in the second half as the Mustangs rallied to win the game.

Brody Costlow’s three solo tackles and nine assists anchored the Middletown defense while Finney had three solo stops and four assists. Three other Mustangs – Ryan Henning, Willy Tadder and Cody Perez – each had five total tackles. Harris also recovered a fumble while Esteban Muniz intercepted a pass.

Kelseyville’s defensive leaders were Deake Lyndall with seven total tackles, Aurilius Santos and Angel Ruiz with six apiece, and Weech Pasalo and Case Pivniska with five each.

On offense, Fabisch led the Knights with 31 yards on seven carries while Brayton Thomas added 30 yards on seven carries. He also had one reception.

Kelseyville travels to Cloverdale on Friday at 5 p.m. Middletown hits the road to play Clear Lake at 5 p.m.
